The district administration of Muzaffarnagar on Monday said that the Delhi- Rishikesh highway will remain closed till July 31 to ensure the smooth movement of 'Kawad' pilgrims.

The security has been tightened to avoid any untoward incident, SSP Sanjay Singhal told reporters on Monday.

The vehicles plying from Delhi to Dehra Dun, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Roorki have been diverted to alternative routes with effective from Monday, he said.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate has also ordered closure of all schools and colleges from tomorrow to July 30 in the district.
